AI for National Progress
The AI Unit is the country’s dedicated platform for advancing artificial intelligence, designing and implementing smart solutions that reinforce public institutions and deliver better, more efficient services to every citizen.
We exist to ensure that artificial intelligence serves the public interest - built on principles of transparency, accountability and human-centred design. Our work bridges cutting-edge research and practical governance, delivering systems that are not only capable but trustworthy, fair and aligned with national values. Through the FAIR framework and the National AI Strategy, we set the standard for responsible AI in Mauritius.
Foundational Principles
AI systems must treat all citizens equitably. We enforce bias auditing and impact assessments throughout every stage of development.
Explainability is a requirement. Every model decision must be interpretable, auditable, and traceable by authorised oversight bodies.
Technology should serve everyone. We design AI tools that are accessible across language, ability, and geography - leaving no community behind.
Our systems are built to be secure and consistent - with national data protection standards as the foundational layer, not an afterthought.
